Sugar beach Viceroy, St Lucia - Rainy surprise proposal
Why rain made this proposal even more romantic
It had rained almost the entire day, and by the time we arrived at the venue, it was clear the weather wasn’t about to change. The surprise was set for the Sunset Deck at Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort in St Lucia, and the events team hovered nervously, checking the skies and hoping for the perfect window of time. I pulled on my hat — because after a day of rain, the temperature drops (and this St Lucian girl does not do chilly well!) — and we all crossed our fingers.
Then came the call: the couple was on their way. As the shuttle approached, the rain picked up into a heavy drizzle. From my new, covered hiding spot, I braced myself, certain they would wait it out. But much to our surprise, Ryan and Elaine stepped right into the rain, undeterred. Without hesitation, Ryan walked her up the stairs and dropped to one knee.
Elaine was stunned, her joy written all over her face. In that moment, the rain didn’t matter. Nothing did except the two of them. Between showers, they sipped champagne, laughed, and soaked in the surprise. Afterwards, we made our way down to the South Pier to chase the soft, fading sunlight — and captured a few more magical moments before the day ended.
This proposal was everything. Where another couple might have shied away from the weather, Ryan and Elaine embraced it fully, turning the rain into part of their love story. My wish for them is that they continue to face life just as they did that day — together, fearless, and ready for any adventure.
